Parker 4 Wheelers

JUNE 2, 2009 MEETING MINUTES

The meeting was called to order by President Hayes at 7:04 pm.

Guests

Guests were Don Crawford from Kansas and Steve Woods & Marty Helton from Bullhead 4 Wheelers. Steve Woods, also a representative of ASA, gave a synopsis of our new insurance coverage through ASA. We are covered basically everywhere, all off-road incidents are covered, the Club is protected, and — best of all — Desert Splash is covered AND . . . . . . . the car crushing event can continue. Three cheers for testosterone!!!

Jack Sweeney made a motion to accept the May meeting minutes. Motion seconded by Chris Olagueand passed.

Treasurer's Report

Frank Varnum was not present so there was no Treasurer’s Report.

Membership:

Donna Franklin was not at the meeting. Speaking of members — the Club just learnedof the passing of one its oldest members -- Don Mendenhall. He was a lifetime member. Rodney says he can remember when he joined P4W that Mendenhall was President and that was a l-o-n-g time ago. A moment of silence was held in Don’s memory.

Safety:

Bob Steinberger advised everyone to Have A Plan and to communicate your plan to everybody! He also mentioned that preventative maintenance is very important for off-road vehicles. Turns out his Jeep (which has never broken down on the trail — much laughter broke out amongst those present at this point and people began standing up on their chairs) had some worn out brass bushy things that, for some reason, had never been serviced, which resulted in mega problems. Bob also cautioned everyone to continually check fan belts and hoses. This is a good checkup to do this summer while your Jeep is sitting idle. The best part of Bob’s dissertation was the fact that he and Charlene are getting married on October 24. Everyone is invited—details to follow.

Publicity Chair:

Brandon Johnson has asked to be relieved from these duties. New Publicity Chair is Scott Vigne.

Web Coordinator:

Brandon has also asked to be relieved of this job and the new Web Coordinator is Dean Payte.

Newsletter:

Lynn Lane said all is good .

Run Coordinator:

Harley was probably stuck in traffic somewhere and could not be at the meeting.

Historian:

Dean Payte says he still has both cowbells and is looking to get rid of them.

Merchandise:

Chris Crismon brought lots of merchandise to the meeting. He has some smokin’ deals on merchandise—hats/$3 ea or 2 for $5; P4W windshield stickers/$1; P4W decals/$1; T-shirts/$5, etc., etc.

Special Dates:

Lynnda Sweeney reported: 6 birthdays and 4 anniversaries for June.

Scholarships:

Chris Olague turned this part of the meeting over to Jack Sweeney who made the scholarship presentations on May 14. Of the two winners only Angelica Acuna was present at the awards.

Donations:

Rich Lane was not at the meeting. The Club has received one donation request. Rich will meet with the Committee prior to the next meeting and present a report to the Club.

Cowbell Updates:

Dean Payte still has both the Man Bell and the Cowbell for breaking on two different runs!

ASA Liaison:

Harley was not at the meeting.

Old Business:

Non-profit status — Lynn Lane met with attorney Fred Welch who will prepare new Articles of Incorporation. Cost will be $750 to get the Club re-incorporated. Jack Sweeney made a motion to spend $750 to get the Club back in status. Motion seconded by Chris Olague and passed.

The new “updated” P4W club logo is being worked on. If you have any ideas for an updated logo, contact Chris Crismon. In the meantime, Chris will keep pestering the person who has been working on the updated logo and also start working on new artwork for Desert Splash 2009.

May Run:

The hard run was clean-up of the new run for Desert Splash located near P Mountain. Jack Sweeney reported 4 Jeeps were there. They worked on the trail for 3 hrs, then it got hot, then they went home. There were no breakdowns —not even a broken pair of loping shears.

Upcoming runs:

June 13—Dean Payte is leading a hard night run. Meet at Cienega Springs Road— just off Hwy 95 at 7:30 pm.

June 5&6—SCRAP is hosting an event in Big Bear. Contact Harley for details.

The July event will be an ALL DAY River Party/BBQ at La Paz County Park. Bring your RVs if you want to camp out for the weekend. More details will be posted via email.

New Business:

The camping fee that was charged at last year’s Desert Splash was a BIG problem with many of our guests, so Rodney & Jack will meet with La Paz County Park officials in late August to see if this situation can be remedied. We may also look into an alternate site for Desert Splash.

The Club will be idle for July (except for the River Party) and August.

Lynnda Sweeney will bring food to the next (September) meeting.

No 50/50 raffle because “someone” forgot the tickets.

Jack Sweeney made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by John Floyd. Meeting adjourned at 7:58p.m.

Changes to the Roster:

With great sadness, please remove lifetime member Don Mendenhall from your roster.

Joke of the Month:

Beware of Underwear Dust

One evening a husband, thinking he was being funny, said to his wife, “Perhaps we should start washing your clothes in SlimFast. Maybe it would take a few inches off of your butt!” His wife was not amused, and decided that she simply couldn’t let such acomment go unrewarded. The next morning the husband took a pair of underwear out of his drawer.“What the heck is this?” he said to himself as a little ‘dust’ cloud appeared when he shook them out.“April”, he hollered into the bathroom. “Why did you put talcum powder in my underwear?” She replied with a snicker, “It’s not talcum powder; it’s Miracle Grow!!!”

About

We are going through minor changes with our domain. Parker4wheelers.com will expire on Feb 1 2010. At that time we will become parker4wheelers.net. Until then both will work. Along with the name change you will notice the page simplifies. Meny thanks to Brandon and Russ who did a super job of setting it up, but I am going to tone it down so that it will be easyer to find a web coordinator when they run me off.
